Energization Exercises

A form of life force control, the Energization Exercises were discovered by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1916. These exercises prepare the practitioner for meditation by releasing tension and inducing a state of calmness and concentration, thus helping to interiorize the mind. The exercises also promote health and healing, purify the blood stream, and recharge all of one’s one’s cells with cosmic energy.

As an example to devotees who follow the SRF teachings, Yogananda himself, despite his demanding schedule, practiced the exercises twice daily. Instructions on the science and practice of the Energization Exercises are given early in the SRF Lessons. The lessons are a complete how-to-live home study course built around the science of Kriya Yoga . To learn more about the SRF Lessons please click here.

While the SRF Chapel of the Lexington Meditation Circle does not have sufficient outdoor space to allow us to regularly engage in group practice the Energization Exercises before our weekly meditations, we do occasionally make arrangements for practicing the exercises together.

We encourage devotees to perform the Energization Exercises at home prior to coming to group meditations.

Paramahansa Yogananda: “The system of Energization Exercises that Self-Realization Fellowship teaches is based on the principle of using will to draw energy from the cosmic source, and to distribute that energy by will to the trillions of cells in the body. We draw most of the current for our actions from the physical supply of the body battery—energy distilled from food, oxygen, and sunshine. We don’t draw enough energy from the invisible cosmic source, through the conscious use of will.”
